Myanmar Football Federation [MFF] Referees Committee Chairman U TunHlaAungwent over the rules of the game with Myanmar’s men’s U-23 football team with a view to assist players in avoiding unnecessary fouls during the SEA Games competition.
“It is important to win when our country hosts the SEA Games. For victory, the players need to avoid committing unnecessary fouls and mistakes. That’s why our Referees Committee helped the players by explaining the rules,” said U TunHlaAung. “The players need to know the rules clearly.”
Myanmar U-23 football team manager Park Sung-Whais concerned that some of his players’ bad habits picked up in the Myanmar National League (MNL) will carry over into the SEA Games competition. In friendlies leading up to the regional tournament, Myanmar’s team gained a reputation for committing the unnecessary foul, sometimes leading to a penalty shot for the opposition.
“In the MNL, sometimes referees do not duly punish the players who commit fouls, so Myanmar players commit terrible mistakes. It is not easy to remove their bad habits immediately. Anyway, I warned them about it and discussed it with them. I worry about their bad habits,” admitted Park Sung-Wha.
