INDONESIA UPDATED. A huge financial bonus has been promised to the Under-23 football squad should they capture the title after coming close in the last edition of the competition
Indonesia have pulled out all the stops to motivate their Under-23 side at the 2013 SEA Games with a huge financial incentive.
Two billion rupiah (approximately SGD$209,832) will be given to the squad for clinching first place in the tournament, the National Team Committee (BTN) has said.
"I hope players can fulfill [the] champions' target in SEA Games 2013; although our opponent will be difficult, but we shall not [be] pessimistic," BTN Chief La Nyalla Mattalitti wrote on his Twitter account.
"Under-23 NT must able to claim victory in SEA Games 2013 and also prove that they can become the best to the whole country.
"For all nation[s], let us support and pray for their effort."
With the official squad boasting national team starlet Andik Vermansyah, Indonesia U23 midfielder Ramdani Lestaluhu is confident his team can bring home the gold medal
However, Indonesia will have a grueling schedule to navigate through after facing Cambodia on December 9.
With a three-day break thereafter, Indonesia will then play Thailand, Timor Leste and tournament hosts Myanmar, with only a day of rest in between each of those games.
"I will ignore the schedule, we have to focus on winning in every match, no matter what the condition is," Ramdani said.
"We must go through the preliminary round first. Without underestimating other teams, I think Myanmar and Thailand will be our biggest opponents. But we are also cautious of Cambodia and Timor Leste, and our focus right now is to face Cambodia.
"I must be optimistic that we can become champions in SEA Games. This will be our final SEA Games and that should become our motivation."
