Algeria has snatched its first medals at the 2013 Islamic Solidarity Games (September 22 to October 1), as Algerian karatekas won one silver and two bronze medals at the finals held Monday at the Sriwijaya Promotion Centre of Palembang, Indonesia.
Djaafer Islam Mehdi was the first Algerian athlete to win a medal in Palembang Games, snatching a silver medal in individual kata. The Algerian karateka lost the final to Malaisian Lim Chee Wei (5-0).
His compatriot Hamadini Missipsa won a bronze medal in a fight he won against Kuwaiti Rasheed Almutairi (6-2) in individual kumite (+84 kg).
Earlier, in a semifinal bout, Hamadini lost to Iranian Zabiollah Poorshab (6-5)
