A Dozen of Gold at Stake for Team Philippines Today

PHILIPPINES UPDATED. A dozen of gold medals are at stake for Filipino athletes seeing action today at the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Myanmar, and one of the 12 is a sure gold medal from men’s basketball team.

Sinag Pilipinas faces Malaysia this afternoon in their last match in the SEA Games to formalize their gold medal win.

As athletics officially firing-off today, Filipino athletes gun for a total of four gold medals in the men’s 400m, hammer throw, long jump and women’s pole vault events.

Middle distance runner Archand Christian Bagsit, long jumper Henry Dagmil and hammer thrower Arniel Ferrera, all aim to convert their 2011 SEA Games silver medals to gold.

Other athletes favored to deliver a golden finish today are Hidilyn Diaz of weightlifting, and both the men’s and women’s team kumite.

Ronald Oranza and Mark John Lexer Galedo will race in the men’s Road Race 50km Individual Time Trial and hope for a podium finish, so as swimmers Jasmine Alkhaldi and Joshua Hall who are competing in the 200m freestyle and 200m breaststroke events, respectively.

Woodpushers Eugene Torre and Darwin Laylo will have to win all their games today in the men’s Asean Individual Standard Chess to have a crack for a medal finish.

Sailing action also officially kick-off today Ngwe Saung Beach, Pathein, with sailors and windsurfers Richly Magsanay, Ridgely Balladares, Rubin Cruz, Renz Angelo Amboy, Alaiza Mae Belmonte and Geylord Coveta seeing action.

Sailing does not offer any medal today though.

Bronze After 34-Year Drought for Singapore Men's Basketball Team

SINGAPORE UPDATED. Singapore are assured of their first SEA Games medal in men's basketball since earning bronze in the 1979 Jakarta Games.

That 34-year wait ended when they thrashed hosts Myanmar 89-52 in their final round-robin game at the Zayyathiri Indoor Stadium on Saturday.

Despite beginning the competition with two losses to Thailand and the Philippines, they won all of their remaining four games to earn their place among the top three of the region.

The team would have to wait until Thailand meet Myanmar in their final round-robin game on Monday to see if their bronze and turn to silver. For that to happen, last-placed Myanmar must somehow overcome the Thais.

Sinag Dribblers Show Worth, Rip Thailand

PHILIPPINES UPDATED. Sinag Philippines, playing with more fire on both ends, demolished Thailand, 100-68, Friday at Zayar Thiri Indoor Stadium to move within two victories of clinching the gold medal that matters most to the country. 

University of Santo Tomas star Kevin Ferrer shot 23 points, while former San Beda Red Lion Jake Pascual and Kiefer Ravena of Ateneo played their best games of the tournament by combining for 29 points as Sinag hurdled what was considered their toughest contender for the men’s basketball title. 
Pascual also collected a team-high 10 rebounds. 

 
Showing better cohesion, Sinag flexed its defensive muscle early, putting the clamps on Thailand’s shooters, while Ferrer and Garvo Lanete found their rhythm from beyond the arc to propel the Filipinos to a commanding 54-33 lead at the break. 

With Ray Parks and Marcus Douthit also doing damage, Sinag coasted trouble free while pinning a first loss on the Thais, who fell to 3-1. 

The game was marred by a scuffle in the last period with the Philippines ahead, 90-54. 

Thailand forward Chanachon Klahan swung an elbow at Pascual while driving to the basket, before pushing away Jericho Cruz who was trying to step in and pacify the fiery Thai player. Chanachon was ejected from the game. 

The Filipino cagers opened their campaign with an 88-75 dumping of a much-improved Singapore squad, before cruising to wins over Cambodia (107-57) and Myanmar (118-43). 

The win against Thailand, though, has been the most impressive as far as coach Jong Uichico is concerned. 

“This (performance) was what I wanted from them, especially on defense,” said Uichico. “I just hope we sustain this in the last two games.” 

Sinag tangles with Indonesia, which has lost three of its four games in the tournament, at 10 a.m. today and a victory could virtually seal the country’s 16th gold in men’s basketball. 

Malaysia will be Sinag’s last opponent on Sunday in the single-round tournament.

Philippines Closer to Gold in SEA Games Hoops After Rout of Indonesia

PHILIPPINES UPDATED. The Philippines is a win away from the precious gold medal in the 27th Southeast Asian Games basketball tournament, closing in after an 83-52 crushing of Indonesia Saturday in Myanmar. 

The remaining assignment in the Filipinos’ championship retention bid is Malaysia and they clash on Sunday at Zeya-thiri Stadium in  Nay Pyi Taw to conclude the single-round tournament. 


Naturalized center Marcus Douthit paced Sinag Pilipinas with 11 points and 11 rebounds while Kiefer Ravena added 10 points off the bench. Kevin Ferrer and Mac Belo chipped in nine points apiece. 

Coming off three straight dominant wins, the Filipinos managed to keep up with the trend and broke the game wide open in the third period, after leading by only four at the half. 

Xaverius Prawiro scored 14 for the Indonesians, who only managed 18 points in the entire second half while the Filipinos had no problem imposing their will.

No Taking It Easy for Philippines SEA Games Quintet

PHILIPPINES UPDATED. There’s no such thing as a sure gold medal as far as the national basketball team bound for the Southeast Asian Games in Burma (Myanmar) is concerned. 

Basketball’s perennial title favorite knows all too well that overconfidence, even just a little of it, can spell disaster in the biennial meet. 

“We just can’t look past the teams there (in the SEA Games),” assistant coach Josh Reyes said at yesterday’s PSA Forum in Shakey’s Malate. “Whether we win by one point or 50, what’s important is we win the gold.” 

Naturalized center Marcus Douthit, who is close to recovering from a calf injury, and members of the Gilas cadet team banner the national squad skippered by Kevin Alas.

“We are expecting no less than a gold,” said Alas, who sprained an ankle recently. 

The team leaves for Nay Pi Taw today, along with the women’s team, which is looking to improve on its silver-medal finish in the 2011 Games in Indonesia. 

“We’re hoping to get the first gold in women’s basketball,” said Perlas Pilipinas coach Haydee Ong. “Everyone will be looking at us since we won the silver two years ago.” 

Perlas was close to taking the title then, but a lapse in judgment led to Thailand forcing overtime and eventually winning. 

“We’re using that loss (in Indonesia) as motivation,” said co-skipper Ewon Arayi.

SEA Games Hoops Teams Optimistic

PHILIPPINES UPDATED. Thailand and Indonesia are on Gilas-Pilipinas’ radar screen but Singapore may end up throwing a curve ball in the Southeast Asian Games basketball competitions in Myanmar, assistant head coach Joshua Reyes said yesterday.

Based on Gilas-Pilipinas recent scouting report, the Singaporeans are fielding a team that has what it takes to surprise the competition.

“Singapore beat a few PBA D-League teams and went on a tour of China and beat (Chinese) Division II squads,” said Reyes during the PSA Forum.
“They’re (Singaporeans) the biggest threat,” added Reyes.

Still, the Thais and Indonesians, traditional title contenders, are foes not to be taken for granted.

The Gilas-Pilipinas team will be made up mostly of cadet players plus Marcus Douthit, the 6-11 slotman of the men’s squad.

Collegiate stars Kiefer Ravena, Bobby Ray Parks Jr., Kevin Alas, Jake and Kyle Pascual are the main men of the team and they’ve been practicing regularly to guarantee that the gold medal won’t slip away from their hands.

Gilas gets the chance to know whether Singapore is all bark than bite when they clash in the first day of hostilities on Dec. 9. Succeeding games will be against Cambodia on Dec. 10, Myanmar on Dec. 12, Thailand on Dec. 13, Indonesia on Dec. 14 and Myanmar on Dec. 15.

Meanwhile, the women’s team main concern seems to be how to overcome boredom as Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas deputy executive director Bernie Atienza revealed during the same forum.

Atienza said the team was briefed by the SEAG task force and were assured of first-class accommodation in Nay Pyi Taw, the main hub of the SEA Games.
“It’s more of the boredom because according to the orientation, the hotels are all brand-new but that there are no restaurants, convenience stores,” said Atienza.

Head coach Heidi Ong said the team feels a lot of pressure.

“We are hoping to get the first gold medal for women’s basketball,” said Ong, who was joined by team manager Cynthia Tiu and two players.

Malaysia Basketball Team Aiming High at SEA Games

MALAYSIA UPDATED. The Malaysian Basketball Association (Maba) have set a two-gold target for the Myanmar SEA Games and men’s team captain Gan Hong Hoong accepts the challenge.

This is despite Malaysia not having won the gold medal in the men’s event since 1989 and finishing without a medal in the 2011 Games.

“Maba have given us a target and it’s only logical to aim for the gold. Nobody wants to finish second anyway,” said Hong Hoong.

“We have also been preparing hard for nearly a year and are mentally and physically ready to step up to the challenge.

“I have to admit that Thailand, Singapore and Indonesia will provide a massive challenge while the Philippines are clearly the favourites.”

The Filipinos won every edition of the SEA Games since 1977 until Malaysia claimed the unexpected gold in 1989.

Hong Hoong, who will be making his SEA Games debut, believes that the men’s team had a good balance of experienced and young players.

“This is my first SEA Games and I’m a little nervous at being captain. But I’ve had some experience from the Fiba Asia Championship back in August when coach Paul (Advincula) also made me the captain,” said the 23-year-old Hong Hoong.

“There are so many players in the team who have experienced competing in the SEA Games, so I can look to them for advice and assistance.

“It’s great that we are going to Myanmar with so many old hands because their experience will come in handy.”

Among the old faces are 30-year-old Koh Way Tek, who made his debut at the 2001 Games in Kuala Lumpur, Ooi Ban Sin and Soo Eng Heng. The likes of Westports Malaysia Dragons trio – Loh Shee Fai, Kuek Tian Yuan and Kwaan Yoong Jing – also have loads of experience competing in international tournaments.

The women’s team will also boast several experienced cagers like Kew Suik May, Goh Beng Fong, Hee Shook Ying, Ang Siew Teng and Yong Shi Min. The women will be seeking their 14th gold at the Games and redeem themselves after a disappointing 2011 Games, in which they only managed a bronze.

Both the men’s and women’s teams will leave for Naypyitaw tomorrow.

Philippine Team Tramples Cebuana Lhuillier in First Match before SEA Games

PHILIPPINES UPDATED. In its first-ever tuneup match as a team, the Philippine squad set to compete in the Southeast Asian Games trounced PBA D-League club Cebuana Lhuillier, 90-62.

For Ateneo star Kiefer Ravena, who helped the country win the SEA Games basketball gold in 2011, it was the first opportunity to team up with naturalized center Marcus Douthit.

“I’m still learning how to play with him,” said the Blue Eagles hotshot, who added that it was fun to once again play with a giant center. Ravena spent his first two years in the UAAP playing alongside 7-foot center Greg Slaughter, who was no longer eligible to play for the Blue Eagles this past UAAP season.

Douthit and Ravena lead the cast for coach Jong Uichico. Also on the team Ray Parks, Kevin Alas, Matt Rosser Ganuelas, Ronald Pascual, Jake Pascual, Garvo Lanete, Kevin Ferrer, Rey Mark Belo, Jericho Cruz, and Prince Caperal.

It was a good showing for the national team, considering they’ve only been practicing in earnest for less than a week.

For Ravena, it is another opportunity to play with a different set of teammates apart from his usual Ateneo comrades.

“It was nice to play with people you are used to playing against,” said Ravena, who along with Parks, Lanete, and Jake Pascual are holdovers from the Sinag Pilipinas squad that won the tournament two years ago in Indonesia. “It was a new experience for me.”

Women Basketball National Team Ready to Face the SEA Games

INDONESIA UPDATED. National women's basketball team won the last test before the SEA Games against Happy Ballers on exhibition match that took place at Hall Basket Senayan, Jakarta on Wednesday (27/11/2013). The team won by 75-70.

"This is the last, no more trials. Too risky because soon they will compete in the SEA Games”said women's basketball coach Raoul Miguel Hadinoto after the game that was held as a fundraiser for Jerry Lolowang, a former basketball player who is currently has cancer.

In the match against Happy Ballers dominated by male players like Augie Fantinus, Sherina Munaf, Yogi Finanda, Mario Lawalata, Udjo Project Pop, Richard Insane and banner Pragiwaksono, the team controlled the game from the first quarter to the end. Although counted as an exhibition match, Raoul remained focused team to try some defense techniques.

“They played pretty good." Better to just play scheme. I see to it that they could read the situation during a match." Also useful to face opponents in the SEA Games later," said Raoul.

Indonesian women's basketball team will face Myanmar in SEA Games opening match. In addition to Myanmar, the three teams that also must be addressed is the Philippines, Malaysia, and Thailand.

Tim Basket Putri Inginkan SEA Games 2013

INDONESIA UPDATED. Tim bola basket putri Indonesia merebut medali emas di Islamic Solidarity Games III 2013 di Palembang. Kesuksesan itu menjadi bukti bahwa Tim Fasya Hanum cs layak mengambil posisi di SEA Games 2013 di Myanmar.
 
Pengalaman bertanding yang mereka miliki diharapkan menjadi acuan bagi Satlak Prima untuk kembali memasukkan tim basket putri ke dalam kontingen Indonesia yang akan diberangkatkan menuju SEA Games tahun ini.

Keinginan itu dikemukakan Asisten Pelatih Bola Basket Putri Indonesia Tri Adyanan Adiloka seusai menerima medali emas ISG di Gedung Palembang Sport and Convention Center (PSCC), Jumat (20/9) malam.

“Dengan pencapaian ini (medali emas), mereka layak diberikan kesempatan Satlak Prima untuk bermain di SEA Games nanti. Saya yakin kami memiliki potensi cukup besar untuk memperoleh medali di Myanmar. Apalagi, kami bisa meraih empat kemenangan dari empat pertandingan yang digelar. Ini membuktikan permainan tim sudah konsisten,” ungkapnya.

Karena itu, Tri sempat mengeluh tim bola basket putri merupakan salah satu cabang olahraga yang dicoret Satlak Prima. Minimnya kompetisi di dalam negeri menjadi salah satu alasan mereka melakukan itu. Tapi, setelah melihat keberhasilan tim putri Indonesia di ISG dan menembus babak Kualifikasi FIBA Asia, Tri berharap Satlak Prima mempertimbangkan prestasi tersebut.

Tri sadar tim bola basket putri Indonesia memang belum pernah menjuarai SEA Games. Prestasi terbaik Indonesia hanya meraih medali perak di Manila, Filipina, pada 1991. Sementara pada keikutsertaan di SEA Games XXVI/2011 di Palembang-Jakarta, tim basket putri Indonesia mengalami kegagalan. Kendati demikian, pihaknya meminta Satlak Prima sekali lagi melakukan kajian.

Apalagi, Indonesia akan mendapatkan pengalaman bertanding di FIBA Asia saat tergabung bersama Thailand, Kazakhstan, Korea Selatan, Malaysia, dan Uzbekistan. “Penampilan konsisten yang diperlihatkan para pemain tidak terlepas dari hasil uji coba ke Korea Selatan dan Taiwan sebelumnya. Alhasil, kami bisa memperbaiki pola pertahanan pada keikutsertaan di ISG tahun ini. Kami tinggal mengasah kemampuan fisik dan mental saja,” kata Tri.

Sementara Fasya mengatakan suasana tim saat ini sangat kondusif dan seluruh pemain bertekad memberikan yang terbaik pada perhelatan FIBA Asia nanti. Apalagi, seusai menjalani ISG, timnya akan melanjutkan Training Camp(TC) di Jakarta sebelum bertolak ke Bangkok.
 
"Secara tim kami banyak mendapat pelajaran berharga saat tampil ISG ini. Pengertian di antara pemain juga terus membaik,” paparnya.

Indonesia First Gold Medals of Women's Basketball

Indonesian women’s basketball team grabbed a gold medal in the 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games (ISG) competition in Palembang on Friday, September 20, 2013. The gold medal marks the first medal achieved by Indonesian national team in ISG.
 
The Indonesian women basketball team defeated Egypt team 81-67 achieving perfect points by not losing in four consecutive matches; two against Qatar, and two matches against Egypt. Tri Adiloka, the coach, said that this was the maximum achievement during the preparation for Myanmar SEA Games.

The branch of sports basketball be opening on ISG. As many as five countries are competing of medal in men’s group namely Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, and Palestine. Whereas in women’s group followed by Indonesia, Qatar, and Egypt.

Women of Indonesia national basketball team consisted of Hanum Fasya, Nur Rahmawati, Felicia Clarissa, Maharani Adhipuspitasari, Natasha Debby Cristaline, Atti juliani Achmad, Agustin Elya Gradita, Marjorice Fedora, Jacklien Ibo, Yuni Anggraeni, Wulan Ayu Ningrum, Shinta Ayu Ramadhani.

Emas Perdana Basket, Penyemangat di ISG

INDONESIA UPDATED. Tim nasional putri bola basket berhasil meraih medali emas dalam ajang Islamic Solidarity Games ke-3 di Palembang. Medali tersebut sekaligus sebagai medali perdana yang didapat oleh para atlet nasional. Ketua Panitia Pelaksana Pusat ISG Anthony Ch Sunarjo mengatakan medali tersebut menjadi penyemangat bagi atlet lainnya yang akan berlaga dalam 12 cabang olahraga lagi.
"Medali ini sebagai bukti bahwa Indonesia juga bisa berbicara di tingkat dunia," kata Anthony Sunarjo, Sabtu, 21 September 2013. Menurut dia, sebagai tuan rumah Indonesia harus berhasil meraih kesuksesan dari sisi penyelenggaran dan dan juga pencapaian target perolehan mendali secara optimal. Cabang bola basket sebagai pertanda baik bagi kesuksesan Indonesia di ajang ISG.

Jumat kemarin, timnas bola basket putri menyumbangkan medali emas pertama bagi Indonesia setelah pada pertandingan akhir berhasil mengalahkan Mesir dengan skor 81-67. Tim asuhan Tri Adiloka itu menuai hasil sempurna dengan tidak pernah terkalahkan dalam empat pertandingan, yakni dua kali atas Qatar dan dua kali atas Mesir. Sementara peringkat kedua ditempati Mesir yang memetik satu kemenangan atas Qatar dan peringkat ketiga diraih Qatar yang tak pernah meraih kemenangan.

Bagi asisten pelatih putri Indonesia, keberhasilan tersebut merupakan salah satu pencapaian maksiman anak asuhnya selama menjalani persiapan SEA Games Myanmar. Menurut Tri Adiloka, anak asuhnya sudah menjalankan setiap materi yang dia berikan selama menjalani pemusatan latihan. "Dapat menjadi motivasi tim untuk turun pada SEA Games nanti," katanya.

Pada pertandingan itu, Jacklien Ibo bermain gemilang dengan mencetak 17 poin, diikuti Wulan Wahyu Ningrum dengan torehan 16 poin.

Selain diperkuat dua pemain andalan itu, tim putri juga menurunkan Hanum Fasya, Nur Rahmawati, Felicia Clarissa, Maharani Adhipuspitasari, Nathasa Debby Cristaline, Atti Juliani Achmad, Agustin Elya Gradita, Marjorice Fedora, Yuni Anggraeni, Shinta Ayu Ramadhani.

Sementara itu Wakil Ketua Umum Pengurus Pusat Persatuan Bola Basket Seluruh Indonesia ( PP. PBSI), Bella Erwin Harahap berharap kesuksesan juga dapat diraih oleh kelompok putra. Dia meyankini atletnya dapat mencuri perhatian saat berhadapan pemain dari timur tengah. " kerjasama tim sudah terbagun sehingga kami optimis bisa dapat perunggu."

Putri Indonesia Raih Emas, Putra Perunggu ISG 2013

INDONESIA UPDATED. Timnas bola basket Indonesia meraih dua medali pertama  untuk Indonesia di ajang ISG 2013. Timnas Putri Indonesia berhasil meraih medali emas pertama untuk kontingen Indonesia, dan timnas putra meraih medali perunggu.

Timnas putri berhasil mengalungkan medali emas setelah mengalahkan Mesir dileg kedua mereka dan  timnas putra Indoensia menutup pertandingan terakhir 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games 2013 dengan kemenangan atas Kuwait dan membawa timnas putra Indonesia menempati peringkat ketiga.

 

Timnas putri sudah memimpin sejak babak pertama, Indonesia memimpin dengan skor 48-32 dan tetap dibabak kedua Indonesia masih terlalu kuat bagi Mesir dan menutup kemenangan dengan skor 81-67. Pencetak poin terbanyak untuk Indonesia ada Jacklien Ibo 17 poin dan Wulan Ayu Ningrum dengan 16 poin. Nesma Maged dan Ranem Muhamed sama-sama mencetak 12 poin untuk Mesir.

Sama halnya dengan timnas putra Indonesia saat melawan Kuwait dipertandingan yang merebutkan medali perunggu. Christian Ronaldo Sitepu dkk sudah meninggalkan Kuwait dibabak pertama dengan margin 18 poin, Indonesia unggul dibabak pertama 40-22. 

Dikuarter ketiga Indonesia masih memimpin pertandingan dengan skor 56-43 dan akhirnya menutup pertandingan dengan kemenangan Indonesia dengan skor 72-60. Dengan kemenangan ini  timnas putra Indonesia berhak atas medali perak.

Dua medali yang disubangkan oleh timnas Indonesia merupakan hasil yang luar biasa untuk bolabasket Indonesia dan untuk kontingen Indonesia di ajang 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games Palembang 2013. Ajang 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games ini sangat bagus untuk ajang pemanasan timnas sebelum Sea Games Myanmar berlangsung bulan Desember mendatang. Dengan hasil yang luar biasa ini mudah-mudahan membawa dampak yang positif saat berlaga di Sea Games Myanmar 2013.

Basketball: Semangat Indonesia Luar Biasa

INDONESIA UPDATED. Sebanyak tujuh negara yaitu Palestina, Turki, Arab Saudi, Kuwait, Qatar, Mesir dan Indonesia bergabung di ISG III pada Cabor bolabasket.

Untuk putra diikuti Indonesia, Turki, Arab Saudi, Kuwait dan Palestina, sedangkan  putri hanya diikuti oleh tiga negara yaitu Qatar, Mesir dan Indonesia. Untuk putra akan bertanding menggunakan sistem setengah kompetisi sedangkan untuk putri dengan sistem kompetisi penuh.

Pertandingan pertama hari ini dibuka oleh dua tim kuat di kategori putra antara Arab Saudi dan Turki. Pertandingan berjalan sangat ketat membuat para penonton yang hadir menyaksikan pertandingan sangat terhibur dengan permainan yang disuguhkan oleh kedua tim. Turki yang menguasai pertandingan sejak awal akhirnya menang dengan skor 76-68.

Hasil serupa juga didapat oleh timnas putri Indonesia, di pertandingan kedua timnas putri Indonesia menang cukup jauh dari Qatar dengan skor 88-45. Christiline Natasha Debby menjadi pencetak poin terbanyak dari Indonesia dengan 18 poin, sedangkan di kubu Qatar, Mohamed A Mohamed Amal mencetak 25 poin untuk timnya.

Pertandingan ketiga antara timnas putra Indonesia melawan Palestina merupakan pertandingan terakhir di hari pertama pelaksananaan 3rd Islamic Solidarity Games cabor Bolabasket berlangsung sangat ketat. 

Palestina diperkuat oleh beberapa pemain yang bermain di liga profesional di luar negaranya, seperti Sakakini Tani pemain dengan nomor punggung 13 dengan tinggi badan 204 cm pernah bermain di liga profesional Cina (Qingdao DoubleStar Eagles)  dan sekarang memperkuat  tim Riyadi Amman di  Jordan’s Premier League. Sedangkan Abushamala Jamal pernah bermain di D-League Amerika Serikat bersama tim Skyfall Sioux Falls Skyforce dan University of Minnesota tahun 2011 lalu.

Pada kejuaraan WABA tahun 2012 lalu, Palestine berada di peringkat keempat di bawah Libanon, Iran dan Jordan. Pada pertandingan yang berlangsung dengan babak setengah kompetisi tersebut, Palestine mengalahkan tim juara yaitu Libanon, tapi kalah dari Iran, Jordan dan Syria.

Timnas Indonesia yang dimotori oleh Xaverius Prawiro dari  mulai tip-off langsung tancap gas, tidak mengenal takut dengan postur badan pemain Palestina yang tinggi dan besar. Di lima menit pertama Indonesia sempat memimpin dengan skor 11-8 yang dihasilkan dari tembakan tiga angka dari Xaverius dan Kaleb bergantian, Palestina hanya unggul 2 poin di akhir kuarter pertama 22-20.

Di kuarter kedua sepertinya tim asuhan pelatih Tjetjep Firmansyah semakin percaya diri dengan memasukan pemain penembak jarak jauh Andakara Prastawa. Timnas Indonesia semakin banyak memperoleh poin dari tembakan tiga angkanya. Kuarter kedua ditutup dengan skor tipis 36-39 untuk keunggulan Palestina.

Memasuki kuarter ketiga dan keempat Indonesia sempat bermasalah dengan permainan dibawah basketnya. Christian Ronaldo, Galank Gunawan, Adhi Pratama mengalami foul trouble yang dimanfaatkan oleh tim Palestina untuk mencetak angka dari bawah basket.

Bukan Indonesia kalau tidak mempunyai semangat bertanding yang tinggi, meskipun sempat tertinggal 7 poin dikuarter ketiga tapi timnas Indoesia  bisa bangkit mengejar ketertinggalan. Di kuarter keempat timnas Indoenesia mencetak 15 poin sedangkan Palestina hanya mencetak 10 poin, tapi itu tidak cukup untuk memenangkan pertandingan, akhirnya Indonesia kalah tipis dari tim kuat Palestina dengan skor 66-68.

Andakara Prastawa menjadi pencetak angka terbanyak dengan 25 poin bagi Indonesia dan Abushamala Jamal dari Palestina mencetak 22 poin untuk mengantar timnya memenangkan pertandingan ini.

Di hari kedua besok (16/9) timnas putra akan melawan Saudi Arabia pukul 18:00 WIB, sedangkan timnas putri besok istirahat dan akan bertanding kemabli hari Selasa (17/10) melawan Egypt pukul 16:00 WIB.
